The roads of Birch Bay will once again welcome runners from all over the state and British Columbia as the 43rd annual Birch Bay Marathon takes place this weekend.

Both the full marathon and the newly added half marathon will start at 8 in the morning on Sunday, February 20.

Though online registration closed February 16, those interested can still register in the full marathon for $100 and the half marathon for $80 on Saturday, February 19.

As of Tuesday, 155 runners have registered for the full marathon and 185 have signed up for the half marathon. The full marathon is limited to 250 runners and the half marathon is limited to 200.

Started in 1968 by local marathon runner Jim Pearson, the Birch Bay Marathon serves as an official qualifier for the Boston Marathon in April. Jim’s son Joel Pearson now directs the race.
