Workers with Shelterbelt, Inc., of Bellingham, plant native Nootka rose starts near Blaine’s Lighthouse Point Water Reclamation Facility on Marine Drive. The shrubs are part of a plan to enhance wildlife habitat, reduce erosion and improve the aesthetics of the park as called for in the city’s Marine Park shoreline restoration study. Other improvements include new picnic tables and the restoration of the park’s amphitheater benches.

Blaine primary school teacher Terre Shapiro helps students plant marigold flowers, donated by Van Wingerden, in celebration of Earth Day.
