Music fans get down at the Haynie Grange this summer

Matt Audette and his Circle of Friends will be entertaining music fans from all over the country this summer.



Fans of bluegrass and classic country music are in for a treat this weekend when Haynie Grange’s annual Opry series comes alive.

Held in an old grange building dating back to the 1920s, the Haynie Opry has hosted top country and bluegrass performers from around the country for the past six years. This year’s lineup features artists such as Canadian yodeler Rod Erickson, hula hoop phenom Jamie Berg and headliner The Tommy Overstreet Show. All shows feature the house band, Matt Audette and his Circle of Friends (Walt Roder, Allan Linde and Ron Reiss).

The Haynie Grange is located at 3344 Haynie Road in Blaine and opens an hour before the concert. Tickets for the hour-long matinees or two-hour evening events can be purchased at the door. Ticket prices: $5 matinees, $10 evenings. Seats are not reserved, so get there early to get the best seat.

The events are held the second Friday and Saturday in June, July and August.

Friday, June 10, 7 p.m.

The kick-off event features country and bluegrass music with special guests Jamie Berg, also known as Ms B Hooping Allure, classical country singer Vicky Jo and traditional country music singer Lew Nordby.

Saturday, June 11, 3 p.m.

Matinee features southern gospel music and special guests Jamie Berg, Vicky Jo, Lew Nordby, and bass player, singer and yodeler Harvey DeJong.

Saturday, June 11, 7 p.m.

Evening performance features country and bluegrass music and includes special guests Jamie Berg, Vicky Jo, Lew Nordby, classic country singer Eli Westin, and Harvey DeJong.

Friday, July 8, 7 p.m.


Country and bluegrass music with performances by singer/bass player Larry Wood, singer and songwriter Melody Biehl, Clio and the Cleft-Notes, and singer/yodeler Claudette Dykstra Sterk.

Saturday, July 9, 3 p.m.

Southern gospel music with performances by Canadian yodeling artist Rod Erickson, Larry Wood and Claudette Dykstra Sterk.

Saturday, July 9, 7 p.m.

Country and bluegrass music with appearances by Rod Erickson, Larry Wood and Claudette Dykstra Sterk.

Friday, August 12, 7 p.m.

Country and bluegrass music with special guests Jamie Berg and Vicky Jo.

Saturday, August 13, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

This year’s headliner is The Tommy Overstreet Show starring Tommy Overstreet and special guest Carla Collins. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance at Mojo Music in Bellingham, Hugo Helmer Music in Burlington and The Noisy Neighbor in Lynden.

From I-5 south, take the Lynden-Birch Bay exit 270 and turn right off the ramp. Immediately turn left onto Valley View Road. Follow for approximately two miles and turn left on Haynie Road. Follow for about 1/4 mile. Haynie Grange will be on the right.

From I-5 north, take the Lynden-Birch Bay exit 270. Turn left over the freeway and left on Valley View Road. Follow for approximately two miles and turn left on Haynie Road. Follow for about 1/4 mile. Grange will be on the right.
