Grab a shovel and a bucket and get ready for some down and dirty fun this weekend. The Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce’s annual sandcastle contest is set for Saturday, June 18.

Contest organizer Marty Stauffer said this year’s contest will feature honorary judges Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo and his wife, Zulma, as well as a live broadcast by local realtor Mike Kent from his KGMI radio real estate program at the event.

Registration begins for the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce’s annual contest begins at 9 a.m. at the visitor information center. The competition will take place rain or shine on the beachfront between Sealinks Golf Course and Shores restaurant. Judging begins at noon.

Categories include individuals, groups and businesses, Stauffer said. A grand prize will also be awarded to the best of show.
The event is sponsored by Data-Link West, Oltman Insurance and Carrie Beck of Take Shape For Life.
