Summer may be a little rainy in the Pacific Northwest, but there will be plenty of sunshine, big waves and balmy beaches on screen next week as part of a free public film program.
Former syndicated entertainment columnist and Blaine resident Ron Miller will host “Summer On Screen” from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at the Resort at Semiahmoo. The event will feature some of the all-time most popular summer movies from “Beach Party” with Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello and “Gidget” with Sandra Dee to “Ride the Wild Surf” with Fabian and “Blue Hawaii” with Elvis Presley.
Among the sunshine classics: "A Summer Place," "The Summer of '42," "Lifeguard" and even "Summertime" with spinster Katharine Hepburn being romanced in Venice by Rossano Brazzi.
Miller will highlight his presentation of films from his private collection with his memories of interviews with such "summer movie" stars as Frankie Avalon, Tab Hunter, Shelley Fabares, Jan- Michael Vincent, Gary Busey and TV's loveable "Gidget" Sally Field. Free coffee and popcorn is also provided.
Miller's other scheduled summer programs are "Remembering Elizabeth Taylor, " on July 8; "Famous Comedy Teams," on July 15; and "Heroes & Heroines of the West," on July 22. For more information, call 360/371-5231.
