Blaine resident Joyce Vanderpol is pictured here at a tennis court in Portschech, Austria, last month after she was invited to play in two international tennis tournaments. Her first tournament was with the U.S. Tennis Team in the Friendship Cup in its 85 age division.

The event consisted of 10 women representing the United States and competing against other women in singles and doubles of various age groups.

Vanderpol won her singles match for the U.S. team against a player from Australia but her California partner lost their doubles match. While there, she also participated in the European Championships tournament and won her first singles match but then lost to a high-ranking player from Germany.
