Forum to host executive candidates

If you have questions for candidates vying for the Whatcom County Executive position, you are invited to submit them for consideration in a public forum.

The Birch Bay Steering Committee has scheduled a forum for candidates running for the Whatcom County Executive position this November. Organizer Kathy Berg said the public is invited to submit their questions via email or phone.

Confirmed candidates are: David Stalheim, the former Whatcom County planning director; Jack Louws, mayor of Lynden; Tom Anderson, a former general manager for Whatcom County public utility district No. 1, owner of Solutions by Engineering and one of the owners of Advanced Solar Energy LLC; and state senator Doug Ericksen, R-Ferndale.

The forum will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at the Birch Bay Bible Community Church at 7039 Jackson Road. The discussion is on the future of Birch Bay, Blaine, Ferndale and Custer with regard to law enforcement, economic development, land use and zoning consideration, public education and environmental protection.
