The owners of the Harbor Shores development now have permission to construct sewer lines in the community, moving the area one step closer to new home construction.
The Whatcom County Council voted unanimously on July 12 to approve a 25-year franchise agreement with Harbor Shores Sewer Corporation that gives the company the right to access county rights-of-way in the area for sewer line installation. The development is off of Blaine Road near Hall Road, just south of Dakota Creek.
Harbor Shores LLC president Skip Jansen said the agreement will allow sewer lines to be built throughout the development and eventually connect to the city of Blaine’s sewer system. The franchise agreement was necessary because county rights-of-way encompass most of the area.
The developers will still need to acquire proper permits from the county to start construction of the sewer lines. Jansen said permits should be acquired by fall with construction starting soon afterward.
