A Blaine man was arrested last Thursday on suspicion of intimidating and harassing a friend of two witnesses to an alleged sexual assault that occurred earlier in the week in Blaine.

Blaine police arrested Casey Edward Fleck, 41, on Thursday, August 18, on suspicion of one count each of intimidating a witness and harassment. Fleck allegedly threatened to harm the witnesses’ friend if the friend did not convince the witnesses to change the statements the witness had made to the police. The friend contacted the police after being threatened.

The witnesses made the statements in connection with the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl by Fleck’s brother, 31-year-old Zachary Eugene Rhodes. Blaine police arrested Rhodes the morning of August 16 on suspicion of third-degree rape of a child after the girl told the police Rhodes had raped her the evening of August 15, Blaine police administrative manager Lisa Moeller said.

Police do not believe Rhodes and the 15-year-old knew each other prior to the incident. Blaine police have not arrested Rhodes on suspicion of any similar charges in the past, Moeller added.

Fleck and Rhodes have both been booked into Whatcom County jail. Rhodes is not registered in Whatcom County as a sex offender.
