The stretch of Lincoln Road closed over the summer for improvements reopened Friday after the Lynden-based contractor completed the project ahead of schedule and within budget.

Stremler Gravel Inc. completed the $22 million project on September 23. The stretch of Lincoln Road between Shintaffer and Harborview roads now has 12-foot-wide lanes with 8-foot shoulders, dedicated left turn lanes at both intersections and stormwater improvements.

Drivers can still expect intermittent lane closures on Lincoln and Harborview as roadside planting is completed, according to a Whatcom County Public Works press release. The section of Lincoln Road was completely closed for most of the summer as Stremler widened the lanes and shoulders.
