More local produce is just one of the goals at Birch Bay Farmers Market under new owner Keith Bowen. Photo by Carissa Wright.
The Birch Bay Farmers Market on Birch Bay-Lynden Road has been open for about six years now, but owner Keith Bowen has a whole new set of plans for the roadside grocery.
“It’s designed to be community oriented,” Bowen said. His main goal is top quality produce at the lowest price possible.
He’s got approximately 5 acres of land under cultivation right now, including about 100 blueberry plants. The recent addition of a handful of alpacas forms the beginnings of an eventual petting zoo.
The original owners only opened seasonally – Bowen will welcome customers all year round.
The Birch Bay Farmers Market is located at 3591 Birch Bay-Lynden Road, and is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
