Join hundreds of other local residents on New Year’s Day for a refreshing dip in Birch Bay during the annual Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce Polar Bear Plunge, co-sponsored by Birch Bay Waterslides.

For the 29th year in a row, hearty souls will gather with other like-minded residents and visitors to plunge into the icy waters of Birch Bay on January 1.

The frigid plunge takes place at noon sharp on the waterfront at the Birch Bay Chamber Visitor Information Center. Registration is free and begins at 9:30 a.m. Wearing costumes is encouraged, and costume judging will be at 11:30 a.m.
Started in 1982, the ritual draws hundreds of onlookers each year.

Those who register receive “I Took the Plunge” certificates and hot beverages. Commemorative T-shirts will be available for $15.

For more information, call the Birch Bay Visitor’s Information Center at 360/371-5004 or visit www.birchbaychamber.com.
