The 40-member Blaine High School Drama Club has scheduled four performances of the musical fantasy, “Umik!”
Blending authentic tribal music with rock and roll and jazz, students tell the Eskimo tale of Umik and his quest for cultural understanding in the frozen tundra.
Students will be wearing costumes inspired by regional tribal art from various coastal and tundra nations. Blaine High School visual art students will showcase their own tribal inspired creations in the lobby.
Umik will be performed this Friday and Saturday, January 6 and 7, at 7 p.m., Friday, January 13 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, January 14 at 2 p.m. in the Blaine Performing Arts Center.
Admission is free, but donations to the Blaine High School Drama Club, which will further theatrical opportunities for students, are welcome.
