Northwest Park and Recreation District 2 (NWPRD2) will be hosting an open house on Saturday, January 28, to promote activities within Blaine and Birch Bay.
“The open house is designed so that members of the community can come meet instructors face-to-face and ask questions about our programs,” said Heidi Holmes, NWPRD2 Office Manager. The day will consist of a series of live demonstrations, showcasing the different classes taking place this year.
The itinerary includes:
10:30 a.m.: Tai chi
10:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Compass and pace count class
11 a.m.: Self defense/Kung fu
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: “Step out for fun” themed kids poster contest
11:30 a.m.: Tai chi fans
12 p.m.: Ballroom dancing
12:30 p.m.: Tai chi swords
1 p.m.: Zumba
1 to 2 p.m.: Compass and pace count class
1:30 p.m.: Beginner fitness
2 p.m.: Compass field class
2 p.m.: H.O.R.S.E. basketball tournament (prize for winner)
(Separate age categories for H.O.R.S.E.: under 12, 12-14, and 15-18.)
The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Birch Bay Activity Center located at 7511 Gemini Street. Free refreshments will be provided.
Groups demonstrating in this event include: Blaine Taiji Academy, City of Blaine Parks, Tutor Doctor, DHM Community Sailing School, Fourth Corner Zumba, EverbodyBIKE, Wings Over Water, Bellingham Gluten Intolerance Group and Let’s Move! Blaine!
NWPRD2 provides recreational outlets, protects and enriches quality of life in the district and maintains recreational resources for all community members. “We try to offer a variety of options that appeal to everyone in the community,” Holmes explains.
