A Blaine resident was arrested in Ferndale last week on suspicion of possessing approximately 27 pounds of cocaine.

Whatcom County sheriff’s deputies arrested 49-year-old Thomas J. Wood of Seafair Drive in Blaine and 50-year-old Guadalupe Martinez at 2 p.m. on January 19 while they were sitting in a car in the 1900 block of Main Street in Ferndale. After a tip led sheriff’s deputies to the pair’s car, a search of the vehicle revealed approximately 27 pounds of cocaine valued at $198,000. Sheriff’s deputies later learned the cocaine was first picked up in Burlington and transported to Ferndale.

According to sheriff’s deputies, Martinez has two prior convictions for drug manufacturing and delivery charges.

Wood and Martinez were booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver.
