Due to overwhelming demand for appointments, the Opportunity Council is expanding its energy assistance hotline hours to this Saturday.
The nonprofit Opportunity Council, through its Low Income Home Energy Assistance program, will be taking energy assistance requests by phone from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 28. The phone line’s normal hours are 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
The energy program provides low-income households with assistance in paying home energy bills. Appointments for the energy assistance program’s grants are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Household grants typically range between $25 and $1,000, depending on heating type and usage, with the average grant amount being $450, said Lorena Shah, the Opportunity Council’s energy services manager. Overall, the energy assistance program will distribute $1.5 million to households in Whatcom County, she said.
To schedule an appointment, call 360/255-2192 or 888/586-7293. For more information, visit www.oppco.org.
