January 2: Border Patrol agents responded to a request for assistance from a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputy who was on a traffic stop near Bellingham. The responding agents encountered two Mexican citizens illegally present in the U.S. The subjects were placed under arrest and processed for removal.

January 3: Agents arrested a citizen of Costa Rica after a vehicle stop north of Lynden. The driver of the vehicle admitted to being illegally present in the U.S. and was processed for removal. This individual had a prior criminal conviction for DUI.

January 4: Agents encountered a subject of India in close proximity to the U.S./Canada border near Blaine. The subject readily admitted to recently crossing illegally into the U.S. from Canada. The subject was placed under arrest and processed for removal.

January 7: Agents performed a vehicle stop north of Lynden and encountered a Mexican citizen who admitted to being illegally present in the U.S. The subject was arrested and processed for removal.

January 8: Remote video surveillance system operators alerted agents that they had observed five subjects cross illegally into the U.S. from Canada north of Lynden. The responding agents encountered the subjects attempting to flee the area on foot. The subjects, all citizens of India illegally present in the U.S., were placed under arrest and processed for removal.

January 10: Remote video surveillance system operators observed two people illegally cross into the U.S. from Canada east of Lynden. Nearby U.S. Border Patrol agents responded to the area and arrested the two individuals, both citizens of India. The subjects were processed for removal.

January 10: Agents took custody of a citizen of Guatemala who was scheduled to be released from the Whatcom County Detention Center in Bellingham. U.S. Border Patrol agents had previously placed a detainer on the subject, who had been determined to be illegally present in the U.S. The subject was processed for removal.

January 13: Agents responded to a request for assistance from the Blaine Police Department during a traffic stop in Blaine. The driver of the vehicle, a Canadian citizen, possessed an expired Canadian passport and admitted to living in the U.S. continuously since 2008. The individual was placed under arrest and processed for removal from the U.S.

January 16: Agents apprehended a citizen of Ireland who had just entered the U.S. illegally by crossing the U.S./Canada border west of Sumas. The subject was placed under arrest and processed for removal.
