February may be short in days, but it is long in greatness of heart and rich in the many occasions for celebrations. Let us celebrate the high ideals of our country’s founders and keep busy with the center’s warm fellowship, the activities and the delicious, nutritious lunches served Monday through Friday.

Thursday, February 9: Learn what’s new to help you in an emergency with SafetyLine, noon.

Tuesday, February 10: AARP Driving Class, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Now is your chance to brush up on your driving skills and get an insurance discount by taking the class. Sign up in advance!

Saturday, February 11: Artisan Bread Series #2 – Learn how to make olive oil dough and pizza with Ron Snyder, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Blaine Senior Center members, $10.  Preregister at the office, bring a hat and an apron, enjoy delicious bread – and have fun.

Monday, February 13: Balance and fall protection class, 1 p.m. Sign up in advance.

Tuesday, February 14: Valentine’s Day celebration along with birthday lunch and entertainment at noon. Come enjoy Harmony Express Woman’s Barbershop Quartet. Wear red and win prizes. Have your picture taken under the Valentine’s Arch with your favorite Valentine  (pet, friend, spouse, significant other) and get your photo for $5.

Thursday, February 16: Come play Bingo at 12:30 p.m. 

Friday, February 17: Broom making demonstration from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Ron Snyder makes dozens of traditional broom styles. He will demonstrate the construction of a cobweb broom and tell stories about the history and lore of broom making in America.

Friday, February 17: Pancake breakfast, 10 to 11 a.m. Pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee and OJ. Adults $5, children $4.

Monday, February 20: Potluck at 11:30 a.m. Celebrate Mardi Gras with the high-energy Marketeers at noon. Bring a dish to share; we have plates, silverware, coffee, tea, water and more. The center will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on this legal holiday.

Tuesday, February 21: Alzheimer’s screening from 10 a.m. to noon. Take a free 15-minute confidential screening. 

Wednesday, February 22: Self Defense for Seniors, 10 to 11 a.m.  Learn escape methods and blocks, and how to use everyday objects for self-defense.  This class will continue every fourth Wednesday of each month.

Friday, February 24: Bingo at 12:30 p.m.

Saturday, March 10: Bingo from 2 to 4 p.m. with cash prizes. This is a special Bingo day. $20 for 8 games (3 cards each), $15 for an extra book. This benefit for the center is open to anyone over 18 years of age. Refreshments included.

February is heart month – take care of yourself, and take special care of your heart.
