After years in the Seattle area as part of families in the restaurant business, Kevin He and April Ma wanted to slow things down a bit.
With this desire in mind, the couple bought the Ocean Bay restaurant at 1210 3rd Street in Blaine. Ma and He moved to Blaine about two months ago and re-opened Ocean Bay on April 24.
This is the first restaurant Ma and He have owned as a couple, though they both come from a restaurateur background.
Coming from the hustle and bustle of Seattle, Ma said she and her husband welcome the quiet streets of Blaine.
“I love Blaine. It’s a small town,” Ma said. “Not too many people, not too much traffic.”
Ma and He bought the restaurant from Peggy Hang, a family friend of He’s. Ma said she and her husband freshened up the interior with new lighting and wall coverings in addition to moving the bar to make the dining room more open.
A new chef to the restaurant has brought some new choices to the menu, and Ma said her favorite is the honey prawn dish. The Szechuan beef is also a popular option, Ma said.
The Ocean Bay restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
