Runners will dash through Blaine during the annual Ragnar Relay series Northwest Passage this week. The race, which begins at Peace Arch State Park and ends at the Island County Fairgrounds in Langley, is about 24 miles total.
The race is divided into three legs, each different in length. The relay will begin at 6 a.m. and continue all day until 6 p.m on Friday, July 20.
There will be no road closures in Blaine due to the race, but volunteers from Ragnar as well as the Blaine Police Department will help flag traffic throughout the day.
Runners will leave periodically and in small groups, so the effect on traffic should be minimal, Blaine police chief Mike Haslip said. However, drivers should be aware that there will be a lot of runners in the area, he said.
Registration is full for the Northwest Passage region, but those looking for more information can visit ragnarrelay.com. Ragnar Relay Northwest Passage is sponsored by RE Sources for Sustainable Communities.
