One Blaine and five Birch Bay residents were arrested last week on various charges that included possession of drugs and stolen property.
The August 9 countywide operation was a joint effort between the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and a number of federal, state and municipal law enforcement agencies. Law enforcement officials said the arrests focused on known gang members in an attempt to prevent a repeat of last year’s gang-related shooting at the Northwest Washington Fair in Lynden.
Only one of the six individuals arrested, 21-year-old Jacob S. Humphrey, was a confirmed gang associate. Officers arrested Humphrey near the 8700 block of Harbor Drive, just west of Blaine Road, on suspicion of possessing methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia and intimidating a witness.
Officers arrested the lone Blaine resident, 22-year-old Michael R. Williams, near his home in the 1000 block of Adelia Street. Williams was arrested after failing to appear in court in connection with third-degree shoplifting and theft charges.
The remaining four individuals, one man and three women, were arrested at the same address on Sunburst Drive just west of the intersection of Birch Bay-Lynden and Blaine roads. Authorities arrested 50-year-old Katherine M. Sofie and 45-year-old Lawrence M. Wasisco on suspicion of third-degree possession of stolen property, while Cheryl E. and Dakota A. Wilson, 55 and 16 years old, respectively, were arrested for failure to appear in court and a probation violation, respectively.
Wasisco was also arrested in September of last year in Blaine on suspicion of possession of and trafficking in stolen property.
