The Blaine Senior/Activity Center folks are enjoying a warm August, after a cooler than usual summer. What a privilege to live in such a scenic setting as ours in such a supportive community. Here are just a few of the upcoming events:
Monday, August 20, 11:30 a.m.:
Join us in welcoming the Boys & Girls Club and Andy from the Peregrine Puppet Theatre for lunch. Performances include the Mouse Bride (a Mayan folk tale), the Bremen Town Musicians and a clown act.
Tuesday, August 21, noon:
Presentation by Dennis Huckaby, a commercial advertising photographer in Hollywood. Drawing on his artistic background, Huckaby designed and produced media used by advertising agencies and production companies for television commercials. He will share some of his experiences from Hollywood and talk about some of his new projects, including Chronicles, a video of family histories.
Thursday, August 30, 1 p.m.:
Ferndale Heritage Society Tour at Pioneer Park. The park structures were created from four acres of uncut Western Red Cedar trees purchased by the Whatcom Old Settlers Association in 1901. The Old Settlers Association has gradually left pioneer structures in the hands of the park. The slab cedar houses, built in the late 1800s, were all relocated from their original sites in 1999. If more than 10 people sign up, the employees dress in period clothing. $5 donation. Carpool at 12:30 p.m.
Labor Day Weekend:
Closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday, September 1-3.
Saturday, October 13, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Blaine Community Rummage Sale. Make some extra money for the holiday and rent a table for only $15. There are 30 tables available, and you don’t need to be a member of the Senior Center to get one. Applications are available at Senior Center.
