A Custer man is serving 60 days in Whatcom County Jail after pleading guilty to stealing his ex-girlfriend’s purse and sending her numerous threatening text messages.
Troy L. Judge, 43, started his jail sentence last week after pleading guilty in June to one count each of third degree theft and cyber stalking. The plea stems from a run-in Judge had with his ex-girlfriend last September outside the Silver Reef Hotel and Casino near Ferndale.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in Whatcom County Superior Court, Judge’s ex-girlfriend called police last September to report Judge had harassed her in the parking lot of the Silver Reef Casino and taken her purse from her car. The couple had split up in December 2010.
The woman told police that in the early morning of September 8, Judge approached her while she was walking toward the Silver Reef Casino and let loose a string of vulgar insults while following her through the parking lot into the casino. When she ignored him, Judge left the casino and returned to her car.
Judge then opened the front door of the car, popped the trunk and took her purse before running to his own car and leaving the parking lot. Security cameras recorded the entire incident.
The ex-girlfriend reported receiving 52 text messages later that same day from Judge, some of which suggested that she should kill herself.
The following day Judge arrived at the woman’s apartment shortly after midnight, threw her purse at her and left. She told police Judge had shown up at her apartment unannounced on other occasions since they broke up.
Whatcom County sheriff’s deputies arrested Judge on September 11 of last year. Judge told the officers he knew he was getting arrested for the September 8 incident but maintained he was merely getting his belongings from his ex-girlfriend’s car.
Judge is concurrently serving two 60-day sentences; one for each count to which he pleaded guilty. Judge has also been ordered not to contact his ex-girlfriend until June 14, 2013, or face additional jail time.
