Get yourself into the holiday spirit by attending a holiday benefit concert featuring the popular and well-known pianist Jon Mutchler on Sunday.
The concert will blend elements of jazz, classical and new age in an original, creative and colorful collection of popular holiday
music will be held at the Blaine Performing Arts Center at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 9.
Mutchler is one of the instructors at the annual Blaine Jazz Festival and has taught piano for more than 20 years. Until recently he was the house pianist at the Semiahmoo Resort.
The Blaine Jazz Festival began 12 years ago and is hosted by the Pacific Arts Association, a local nonprofit organization. The heart of the festival is to bring music to the Blaine community and to enrich the lives of young musicians.
With the closing of the Semiahmoo Resort, the city of Blaine has lost its primary source of hotel and motel tax funding for local events, including the Blaine Jazz Festival. The $15,000 grant that was earmarked to fund the festival and camp will not be available, and the association needs to raise that money in addition to their normal fund-raising.
Donations will be accepted at the door. Proceeds from Mutchler’s concert will benefit the 2013 Blaine Jazz Camp, which encourages young musicians in learning their craft.
Come out to enjoy holiday favorites and help young musicians improve their skills.
