The six-year-old from Blaine was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma after doctors at Seattle Children’s Hospital successfully removed a large tumor from her brain.
After six months of chemotherapy, six weeks of radiation, countless trips to the emergency room, and numerous overnight stays in isolation – a rough year and a half for Abbigale and her family – this tough little girl is in remission, meaning the cancer is not active and not growing.
When announcer John
Liebert read Abbigale’s story to the packed Blaine gymnasium, athletic director Wayne Vezzetti said, “There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. What a brave and amazing little girl.”
Vezzetti and athletic coordinator Steve Miller said Blaine fans and students contributed a total of around $1700 to the Coaches vs. Cancer cause over the course of January, with proceeds benefitting the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham.
The girls won the game against Lynden 37-26.
