Wonderful things come with the month of May. Beautiful sunshine is lighting up our paths and hopefully resulting in the refreshment of minds and spirits. Blaine seniors from the Blaine Senior/Activity Center are eagerly awaiting an abundance of pleasurable activities. As always there will be picnics and interesting field trips. There will be bocce ball, pleasant outdoor walks, nourishing lunches and fellowship with friends new and old.

Thursday, May 9: Mother’s Day celebration starts before noon with country music by Howard and Sandy Andreason.

Friday, May 10, 12:30 p.m.: Member’s bingo. Donated prizes are welcome for this very popular event.

Saturday, May 11, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Singles pot luck. This is something for the singles to enjoy and get acquainted with others. Bring whatever you would like to share and also your own plate and cutlery. There will be coffee and tea waiting for you.

Tuesday, May 14, 6 p.m.: Bingo. $10 admission. This will include eight games with three cards for each game. Open to the public – bring friends and family. Doors open at 5 p.m. for pub burgers or Costco-style hot dogs, chips, pop and/or coffee available for purchase until 5:45. Assorted snacks will be available for purchase during intermission. Kids play free.

Thursday, May 16, noon: Come see and hear Johannes Lisiecki’s great adventures on a remarkable 43,000-mile, 20-country sojourn throughout North, Central and South America as documented in his book, Following a Dream.

Saturday, May 18, 8–11 a.m.: Pancake breakfast. Pancakes, waffles, French toast, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee or tea and orange juice. Adults $6, children $4.

Wednesday, May 22, noon: Name a tune. Think of a favorite song or singer and we will bring it up on the big screen TV with our new laptop!

Thursday, May 23, 12:45 p.m.: Secrets of Highclere Castle. This is the true story of one of the world’s most famous homes. Highclere Castle in England is famous as the location backdrop to the hugely popular drama Downtown Abbey and has its own tales to tell.

Saturday through Monday, May 25–27: The center will be closed for Memorial Day.

Thursday, May 30, noon: Al Ulrich will sing country songs and even yodel! Picnic lunch will start at 11:30 a.m. with music at noon. Come and celebrate May birthdays with music and cake on the senior center lawn.

Tuesday, June 18: Strength-training classes begin. Sign up in advance, space is limited. Classes meet Tuesday and Thursdays for eight weeks at 2 or 3 p.m. $60 fee with medical release form.
