May is National Bike Month. Celebrate by biking to work or school and stopping by one of the 65 everybodyBIKE celebration stations across Whatcom County during your morning commute on Friday, May 17 to receive prizes, treats and even lots of cow bell ringing!
Bike to Work and School Day is promoted by everybodyBIKE, the bicycle program of Whatcom Smart Trips. The event has grown from just one celebration station in 1998 to more than 60 celebration stations at schools, businesses and community centers all around the county.
The event encourages and rewards people for riding their bikes to work or school. Benefits of riding bikes daily include saving money, keeping physically fit and reducing vehicle traffic.
More than 200 volunteers will staff the event’s stations and 100-plus businesses have donated prizes and refreshments for the children, adults and seniors who will be riding by on bicycles, tricycles and even unicycles.
Blaine’s celebration station will be located at the Blaine schools campus on the corner of H and Mitchell streets. For a list of other stations around the county visit biketoworkandschoolday.org.
The event is part of National Bike to Work Day celebrated every year on the third Friday in May. For more information, contact everybodyBIKE at 360/671-BIKE or info@everybodyBIKE.com
