Kite flyers, skim boarders, kayakers and paddleboarders will descend on Birch Bay Saturday and Sunday, August 17 and 18 to take part in the first International Sea and Sky Festival, with demonstrations, competitions and classes open to all.
The two-day celebration of beach, sea and sky will showcase kites of all shapes and sizes, and feature skimboarding demonstrations from professional skimboarder Jeff Blotsky. On Saturday, August 17, Northwest Parks and Recreation District Two will provide classes on kite building and Blotsky will host skimboarding lessons from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
On Sunday, August 18 there will be kayak and stand up paddleboard races in the bay. Skimboarding and kite flying demonstrations will continue throughout the weekend.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Gail Walker, vice president of the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce. “People love to fly kites on Birch Bay beach, and this festival will bring people together to enjoy all the bay has to offer.” All events will take place in front of Via Birch Bay Café and Bistro and Paddle and Pedal Adventures rental shop.
