The iconic resort on Semiahmoo spit, under new ownership since June, is now accepting reservations for August 15 or after.
Yogi Hutsen, president of Coastal Hotels, the company that manages the resort, said construction crews are working at a fast and furious pace to get the hotel ready in time for opening.
“There’s a lot of work going on at the property, mostly on the exterior. New paint, new landscaping, dry-rot replacement and various other things to get the property re-energized,” Hutsen said. “It’ll be looking fairly new from the outside.”
Guests will sleep on new bedding and use new towels, and hopefully have new TVs in their rooms, Hutsen said.
The fitness center and tennis courts will be open, and the spa director is on site getting the spa ready for opening day.
Guests will see lots of familiar faces and a few new ones at Semiahmoo, as many of the staff who worked under the old owners were rehired.
Hutsen said his company is excited for the reopening.
“I’ve been in the hotel business since 1972 and I’ve never seen so much interest in the reopening of a hotel,” he said. “People love this hotel, and I have to tell you, I’m one of them.”
