A Blaine woman is being held in Whatcom County Jail in connection with a Bellingham bank robbery.

On the morning of August 15, Bellingham police responded to a call from a teller at Banner Bank on Barkley Boulevard. The teller told police the bank was being robbed by a woman who passed a note over the counter and implied that she had a weapon. The woman was described as wearing a brown wig and sunglasses. She left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, got into a dark blue SUV and drove north towards Sunset Drive, said sergeant Shawn Aiumu.

A nearby officer located a Ford Explorer with no license plate that matched the teller’s description and followed it onto I-5 going north, then off the interstate at the Meridian Street exit. Backup arrived shortly thereafter, and officers pulled the car over into a Burger King parking lot on Telegraph Road.

“Officers made contact with the driver, and she admitted to robbing the bank,” Aiumu said. No weapons were found in the vehicle.

Sondra Dulaney, 55, was booked into Whatcom County Jail by Bellingham police shortly before noon, and has been charged by county prosecutors with robbery in the first degree.
