Fresh faces arrive at Blaine School District

Leslie Drury of Ferndale has been hired by Home Connection as an Alternative Learning Education (ALE) instructor where she will teach language arts, social studies and math. Drury holds a master’s degree in elementary education with an emphasis in language arts from Western Washington University and has 31 years of teaching experience. She is a returning employee. 

Linsey Pike of Blaine has been hired by Blaine Primary School as a first grade teacher. Pike holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah. 

Vanda Russell of Bellingham has been hired by the Blaine School District as a part-time occupational therapist for the school
 district. Russell will work with students to maximize their independence in the classroom and help them develop motor and sensory performance. She holds a master’s degree in occupational therapy from Texas Women’s University and has 25 years of school experience. Russell previously worked in the Bellingham School District. 

Elli Weeks of Bellingham has been hired as a math and science teacher for Blaine High School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, general sciences with an emphasis in biology from Western Washington University. Weeks will be teaching algebra, chemistry and ninth grade science.

Christy Wood of Blaine has been hired as a math teacher for Blaine High School. Wood holds a master’s degree in education from Antioch University in Seattle and has three years of teaching experience. 

Amber House-Burling of Bellingham has been hired by Blaine High School as a life skills teacher. She holds a bachelor’s degree in special education from Western Washington University and has previously taught at Shuksan Middle School and Lynden High School. 

Tricia Blanco of Blaine has been hired as a speech language pathologist for the Blaine School District. She holds a master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from California State University. Blanco has seven years of experience as an SLP in the public school system and is a returning employee. 

Rayna Gibson of Blaine has been hired as a  first grade teacher for Blaine Primary School. Gibson holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Washington and has nine years of teaching experience. 

Wendy Bloom of Bellingham has been hired by the Home Connection as an ALE instructor and  will teach arts and theater. Bloom holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Oregon University and has worked with the home school partnership programs in Whatcom County since 2007.
