Welcome to October, the month when it truly begins to feel like autumn. 

Autumn is a time of changes, and the senior center calendar, being in tune with the season, has a renewal of exciting activities.

One of the major events is Big Basket Bingo, where you may win cash and prizes. Come join the fun on Saturday, October 12. Win great prizes for a $20 admission. Eight games will be played, and you may play three cards with each game. Refreshments will be included. 

Someone will be the luck winner of the $100 grand prize sponsored by Whatcom County Eldercare Adult Family Home.

Another great happening is the very popular pancake breakfast on Saturday, October 19.


Tuesday, October 8, 1–3 p.m.: Flu shots. The regular flu shot will be $25 and the high dose recommended for seniors 65 and up will be $55. They can bill Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and several other insurance providers. Call Hoagland Pharmacy for details at 685-5012.

Tuesday, October 15 – Monday, October 28: Secure shredding. Tired of feeding a few pages at a time? Sanitary Service will have secure 60-gallon bins at Blaine Senior Center so you can drop off your papers to be securely shredded. Each 60-gallon bin costs $35. Please donate to cover the costs.

Wednesday, October 16 11:45 a.m.: Birthday lunch music by Reminisce Music with Reminisce Carol and Alan Linde playing old favorites of the ’40s, ’50s and more. Enjoy a special birthday dessert supplied by the Blaine Senior Center.

Saturday, October 19, 8–11 a.m.: Pancake breakfast. Pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy or French toast with fruit, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee/tea and orange juice. Adults $6, children $4.

Saturday, October 19, 9–11 a.m.: Flu shots by Rite Aid. Come get your flu shots now. Covered by most insurance providers. Bring insurance card and $29.99 cash price. Shingles shots by reservation.

Monday, October 21, 11:30 a.m.: Oktoberfest with music by the Polka Dots. Enjoy beer samples from Boundary Bay Brewery, pretzels and Oktoberfest snacks. Oktoberfest lunch will feature bratwurst, sauerkraut, hot potato salad, melon salad and apple crisp.

Tuesday, October 29, 11:45 a.m.: Medicare open enrollment information. Come to lunch and review this important information about the Medicare open enrollment. Find out the facts from Aging and Disability Resources.

Thursday, October 31: Halloween. Dress in costume and win prizes at lunch. See spooky jukebox videos on our big screen. At 12:30 p.m. see the classic thriller The Cat People in the coffee bar, trick or treat for yummy treats! Boo!

Friday, November 8, 5:30 p.m.: Community Spaghetti Feed and 24-Piece Bellingham Youth Jazz Band. Dinner at 5:30 p.m., music 7–8 p.m.  

The jazz band features big band sounds and jazz classics. Spaghetti and meatballs, green salad, garlic rolls, dessert, complimentary beverage with ticket – wine, apple juice or coffee.
