The Let’s Move, Blaine! (LMB) Coalition has been meeting on a monthly basis to prepare for many upcoming community activities, including their first 2013–14 school year “Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies” (HMHB) event, which will be held on Wednesday, November 20 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., thanks to a grant from the Whatcom Community Foundation.

This event’s theme will be “’Tis the Season of Healthy Eating,” and will be the first of two events planned for this school year at Blaine Elementary School. The families of Blaine elementary students are invited to enjoy a free healthy meal starting at 6 p.m., with various healthy living activities happening in the elementary gym from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The activities will focus on a variety of healthy habits to help us through the holidays as well as throughout the year.

LMB has partnered with Northwest Parks and Recreation District 2 for another family fun community event during the second annual holiday lights. The 1.5-mile obstacle course Holiday Dash will take place prior to the Blaine tree lighting ceremony at the H Street Plaza on Saturday, December 7.

This community event is one of two annual fundraisers for LMB.

In January, LMB will begin work on the next Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies event along with “Passport to Fun,” which features community activities for kids in the Blaine/Birch Bay community.

Let’s Move, Blaine! is actively seeking volunteers to fill various board positions, become a coalition member and assist with various events such as HMHB, Holiday Lights Dash and future events and activities.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and/or member of the LMB Coalition, or would like to register for the Holiday Lights Dash please visit letsmoveblaine.org, or call Dan Persse at 360/201-1664.
