You can help out a struggling family with the items on their child’s Christmas wish list by picking up a tag from an Angel Tree in Birch Bay or by donating gifts or money to the Giving Tree in Blaine.

Angel Trees are on display at Bay Cafe, Vonna’s Purple Fin Restaurant and the Northwest Parks and Recreation District 2 office at Bay Horizon State Park. Each tree is decorated with tags with a child’s name and a few items on his or her wish list.

Participants can pick up a tag, purchase one or more items on the list, and return the unwrapped gift along with the tag to the angel tree site by Sunday, December 15. Water’s Edge Church in Birch Bay will collect the gifts and begin wrapping them with paper specially decorated by the children of the church.

Church members and volunteers will then distribute the gifts and hold a special Christmas-gift-giving service at Water’s Edge Church’s usual meeting place, the Birch Bay Activity Center at 7511 Gemini Street in Birch Bay, on Sunday, December 22.

“The whole community is invited as we remember those in need in our community, and share a Christmas goodies potluck after the service,” said Jim Carberry, Water’s Edge Church pastor.

More than 75 children are participating in the Angel Tree program this year. For more information, call Carberry at 360/389-3529.

The Giving Tree program has been a Blaine tradition for more than 20 years. If you would like to donate, gift tags are available at many local businesses, and you can return your newly-purchased gift to the same location for collection. All gifts must be received by Sunday, December 15, and will be distributed December 20–22.

If you’d like to make a monetary donation instead, you can write a check payable to the Blaine Chamber of Commerce with “Giving Tree” in the subject line.

Checks can be dropped off at Sterling Bank, located at 271 H Street, Blaine Boys & Girls Club, located at 635 H Street and Blaine Visitor and Information Center, located at 728 Peace Portal Drive.
