The Birch Bay Steering Committee finds itself ending 2013 with four major Birch Bay Community Plan (Whatcom County Comprehensive Plan) projects in various states of implementation:

The shoreline restoration phase of the Birch Bay Drive and Pedestrian Facility Project is entering the engineering and permitting process at Whatcom County Public Works with construction expected to commence in 2016.

The BP Heron Center for Environmental Education is halfway constructed on the beach by the Friends of Birch Bay State Park with completion expected in summer of 2014.

A Birch Bay Beach Park and Community Center is being hotly pursued, headed by a small group of citizens in cooperation with the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce and Northwest Park and Recreation District 2.

A nature trail that has been designed to be disabled-accessible and self-guided around the southern perimeter of Bay Horizon Park is in the conceptual stages with a local developer, Lions Camp Horizon and Whatcom County Parks and Recreation.

Stay tuned for opportunities for you, the members of the greater Birch Bay/Blaine community, to get involved in bringing these exciting projects to fruition over the next few years.
