Whatcom County residents now have access to free online training in basic computer skills and the use of Microsoft products.
The program, called Microsoft IT Academy, has been made available by a partnership between Microsoft and the Washington state library system and offers lessons on Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word and Access. Washington is the first to offer the program statewide.
The online academy offers lessons ranging from beginner to extremely advanced, said Debby Farmer, manager of the Blaine Public Library.
“After completing the courses, people should be able to compete with IT professionals,” Farmer said.
The training is free and can be accessed online at home or at local libraries, such as the Blaine Public Library, and provides skills that can be used to attain Microsoft proficiency certification.
