Water is a precious resource, and rain barrels allow people to conserve water by using the rain that falls on their roof to water their yards and gardens.

The rain barrel workshop hosted by the Birch Bay Water and Sewer District and Birch Bay Watershed and Aquatic Resources Management district will show participants the basics of a rainwater storage system and demonstrate how to build a rain barrel. Each participant in the free workshop will take home a pre-drilled 55-gallon barrel for rain collection.

Two workshops are scheduled: one on Saturday, April 5 at the Blaine Senior Center, 763 G Street, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and the second on Wednesday, April 9 at Birch Bay Water and Sewer District, 7096 Point Whitehorn Road, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Space is limited to 20 households per workshop. Pre-registration is required. Call Ingrid Enschede at Whatcom County Public Works: 360/715-7450 x50787 or register online at bbwarm.whatcomcounty.org/programs/education/rainbarrels
