With the resignation of Blaine school board director Susan Holmes, the rest of the board is looking for her replacement. Holmes’ last day will be April 15.
The vacated position represents district 3, which roughly encompasses Birch Bay Village, south Birch Bay and Point Whitehorn, one of five geographical areas covered by the Blaine School District. Any resident of district 3 who is a registered voter may submit a letter of interest to the school board listing the candidate’s prior experience and qualifications for the position.
Letters of interest must be received at the office of the Blaine School District superintendent at 765 H Street in Blaine no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
Board members will schedule interviews for up to five candidates and ultimately vote in public session to approve their selection. The new director will serve until the November 2015 election at which time the appointee and any other interested candidate will compete for the balance (two years) of the current four-year term.
There will be an informational meeting held Tuesday, April 22 at 4 p.m. in the district office for those interested in learning more about the position. Links to specific geographic boundaries for district 3 and school director candidate information can be found at the Blaine School District website at blainesd.org.
