Traffic on northbound I-5 near the Birch Bay-Lynden Road exit was rerouted for two hours on Monday morning following a truck accident.
The semi truck overturned near Peace Portal Drive at 4:20 a.m. on Monday, blocking the left lane. Northbound traffic was rerouted along Portal Way, and then detoured down D Street in Blaine and back onto I-5. Trucks were detoured down H Street until they could join back up with State Road 543.
The driver, a 58-year-old man from British Columbia, was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham with minor injuries.
The roadway was not damaged in the crash, but road crews did have to clean up a minor fuel spill. The truck was bearing furniture and other miscellaneous parts.
The project was completed on time and traffic flow was back to normal by 11 a.m. At this time, investigators are still looking into the cause of the accident.
