Have an opinion on Blaine’s proposed name change? Now is your chance to have your opinions heard.
The city of Blaine is looking to form a committee that will draft the pros and cons of the proposed name change for the November ballot. In accordance with state law, city managers are hoping to appoint two to three representatives from each side of the issue, who will then discuss and debate the pros and cons of changing the city’s name from Blaine to Blaine Harbor.
The committee members will be responsible for drafting recommendations to voters on how they should vote on the issue. The agreed-upon language will then be submitted to the county auditor to be included on the November ballot.
The city will host two open public meetings to hear nominees for committee positions. Proponents of the name change will have their meeting on Tuesday, July 8 at 5:30 p.m., and opponents will have their meeting on Wednesday, July 9 at 5:30 p.m. The council hopes to formally announce the committee members at the council meeting on Monday, July 14.
