Council delays critical areas ordinance
Following heated testimony from landowners, developers and environmental groups on Monday, Blaine City Council voted down a critical areas ordinance (CAO) 4-3 that would increase buffer zones around wetlands, and scheduled a work session to amend the ordinance in what some councilors called an attempt to balance environmental protections with property rights.
City unveils proposal for UGA cuts
Following requirements by the Washington State Growth Management Act (GMA) Blaine community development director Terry Galvin unveiled a proposal that would cut the city’s urban growth area (UGA) by two-thirds.

Whatcom County assessor Keith Willnauer has announced he plans to institute annual property assessments ahead of a state-mandated deadline.

Family opens kayak and bike rental business
Those looking for a fun way to get outdoors now have more choices in their own backyard. Blaine resident Gail Walker and her husband Britain opened Paddle and Pedal Adventures bike and kayak rentals at the end of Semiahmoo spit last Monday.
