Billie Moore Squires died peacefully at her home on January 13, 2011 at the age of 83. She was born on February 12, 1927 in Houston, Texas.

Billie was known for her fierce independence, unfailing work ethic, and ability to accomplish whatever she put her mind to. In the late 1940’s she became the first woman in Texas to obtain an insurance broker’s license. In 1963, she moved to Santa Barbara, where she owned and operated Day and Squires insurance agency for 25 years before retiring. Upon retirement in 1987 Billie and her family moved to Blaine.

Not surprisingly, her retirement was short lived. Always pushing herself to learn new skills, she obtained a real estate license. Billie worked until her passing at Freeman Real Estate in Blaine. In every community she lived in, she became well loved and important to the fabric of that community. Billie loved her family tremendously, and this was extravagantly demonstrated to her family throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by those that know her as mom, grandma, gigi, great-aunt Billie and friend.

She is survived by her daughter Patty Macheras and her husband Michael of Blaine, grandson Alex Macheras and wife Kathy Macheras, and three great-grandsons, Brady, Kellen and a baby boy due January 28, of Tacoma, as well as niece and nephew Doug and Carolyn Oram and their children, Tonya, Aaron and Paul, of White Rock.

A memorial service will be scheduled later this summer.
