Henry "Tom" McCown passed away after a short illness at age 69. Tom was born to Henry and Mary Iloree (Shirey) on August 16, 1941 in Albany, CA.
After meeting his bride Sherry Jo German, they married in Las Vegas on September 17, 1977. They started their family in Winslow, AZ, where Tom worked in various capacities in general construction and most recently as a piping superintendent. In 1991 they moved to Birch Bay where they continued to enjoy their children and grandchildren. He truly cared for the people he knew and made everyone feel like a part of his family by sharing his great sense of humor, his time, and his advice. He made a friend everywhere he went. Tom instilled in his children values of kindness and will be most remembered for teaching them the joy of laughter.
He used his gifts of drawing in particular, drawing wolves for his bride and children. With his skill of wood carving, he gifted each of his children something to remember him by. He loved NASCAR and fishing at his favorite spot on Baker Lake. He enjoyed coaching his daughter’s high school team in bowling and more recently spending time with his grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his brother Daniel McCown of Oakley, CA, and sister Bonnie Simms of Alabama; loving wife Sherry, sons Anthony (Judy) McCown of Citrus Heights, CA, Kenneth McCown of San Francisco and daughters, Candace (Tony) Johnson of Roseville, CA, Trina (Sean) McCown of Blaine, Jaime (Josh) Turner of Everson and Rebekah McCown of Lynden, WA, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
His generous spirit to love and laugh has left many touched. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given in Tom’s name to the Whatcom Historical Society of PO Box 2116, Bellingham, WA 98227.
