Leonard (Len) Helton Sr. February 28, 1945 - November 13, 2011
Leonard (Len) Helton Sr., age 66, passed away at his home on Sunday, November 13, 2011.
Len was born to Charles and Esther in Warren County, Michigan. Following elementary school, Len attended Howell High School near Detroit, MI and later attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Wisconsin.
Len served in both the National Guard and U.S. Army where he received decorations as a marksman and sharpshooter. Upon discharge from his military duty, he briefly took a position with the Schlitz Company, in the meantime developing a strong passion for computers and software. Len spent the next 40+ years working in software development. Over the course of his career, Len managed many important projects contributing to some of the earliest business adaptations of computers. Projects he managed ranged from efficiently building jet engines to fixing critical computer systems worldwide in the years preceding Y2K.
Throughout his life Len loved the outdoors and looked for every opportunity to be near snow capped peaks and open waters. He enjoyed hiking and camping. This love led he and his wife to relocate to Blaine, WA in 2006 where he daily enjoyed closeness to mountain vistas and water just by looking out his kitchen windows.
Len is survived by his wife Pat, his sons Lenny (Clarissa) & James (JoAnne), his brothers Jerry (Jan) & Bob (Marilyn) and his sister Pat (Don) Marbry. He is also survived by his grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. A memorial service is to be held 2 p.m.Thursday, November 17, at Grace Lutheran Church in Blaine.
