Barbara Ann Baker, age 79, born April 16,1932 in Mexico, MO, and died March 4, 2012 in Birch Bay. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin Freeman Baker in 1993.
She was the daughter of Donald Brown and Anna Sims Brown Baker, who both preceded her in death. Barbara moved to Birch Bay at age 2, and married Martin in 1946. She was employed by the U.S Postal Service for thirty years where she worked inside the Blaine Post Office, and prior to that, was a rural carrier for many years on Route 1. She and Martin were heavily involved with Boy Scouts, and they loved camping, hiking, hunting and fishing. She was a strong, caring, loving woman – and you always knew just where you stood with her.
She is survived by her sons Martin F. Baker of Camano Island and Steven L. Baker of Birch Bay, her sister, Donna McCarter, of Seattle, brother Dennis L. Brown of Birch Bay, and grandchildren, Scott, Robert (Bob), Matthew, Stewart, Natalie and Trevor. There are ten great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Special people in her life include Norma, Bev, Cooki, Debbie, Leo and Tina, Art, Larry and the Eastern Washington hunting crew, Bob, Barry and Matt.
The family wishes to thank hospice, especially Chris and all the nurses, and the caring, compassionate Michelle. We ask that memorials be made to Whatcom County Hospice or your favorite charity. A graveside service will be held at Hillsdale Cemetery on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 11 a.m. Please sign the Book of Memories, light a candle and leave your condolences for the family at www.JernsFuneralChapel.net
