Kara Marie Telgenhoff went home to be with the Lord on June 19, 2012. She left in the same way she lived, peacefully and gracefully.
Kara was born in Bellingham, Washington on February 20, 1977 to Kirk and Corky Cantrelle. She was raised in the Ferndale area with her brother Chris Cantrelle. Kara and her family were active in Sunrise Baptist Church during her childhood, and she was involved in worship, musicals, singing groups, Sunday school and youth group. She attended Ebenezer Christian School and graduated from Ferndale High School. Kara began teaching private piano lessons at the age of 15 and went on to earn a music/teaching degree from Western Washington University and the University of Washington. Kara had a passion for and was crowned Miss Whatcom County in 1998. She continued to mentor young women in the pageant to the present.
Kara married Craig Telgenhoff on December 9, 2000, and they lived in the Seattle area. They enjoyed being together, growing together, laughing together and loving together. They spoke highly of each other and were strong together. Craig and Kara made their home in Birch Bay, Washington. They were active in the Lynden Community Church. Kara was thrilled to teach music at Custer Elementary School and Eagleridge Elementary School. Her students adored her as did her coworkers. Kara would often go beyond general expectations for the sake of a student. Teaching music was not her job, it was her passion.
Kara was no stranger to heartache and with confident trust in Jesus, she gracefully laid Patience and Grace, her precious daughters, to rest. As much as Kara loved her husband and teaching, she was made to be a mother, and in 2009, God so beautifully gave them little Faith Marie. Faith was simply enjoyed by her parents, and Kara was so proud to be her mom. Even at her young age, Faith has many impressions of her mother; little things that can be identified as unmistakably “Kara.” Most notably, however, would be her arms-wide-open embrace of life itself.
In August of 2010, Kara was diagnosed with colon cancer that had metastasized to her liver. Her fight was a valiant and brave one, constantly amazing doctors, nurses and friends with her positive attitude and genuine faith in Jesus.
Kara was preceded in death by two daughters, Patience and Grace. She is survived by her husband Craig Telgenhoff, daughter Faith, parents Kirk and Corky Cantrelle, brother Chris Cantrelle (wife Aimee), father and mother-in-law Terry and Karen Telgenhoff and brother-in-law Chad Shoemaker (wife Billie).
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, June 28, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lynden Community Church (7th and Grover).
