Geraldine Elizabeth Mast Gottshall Reed died on April 23, 2014 at home in Lynden, WA. She was born February 27, 1920 in anthracite coal country in Shamokin, PA to Martin Mast and Lottie Bilger Mast. Her parents and brothers Melvin and George Mast and sister Grace Mast Kerstetter preceded her in death.

As a child of eight years old, Geri was busy with school and piano lessons and recitals. She was her church’s pianist. At the age of 14 she had her own radio program on station WKOK in Sunbury, PA.

Geri worked as a Nurses’ Aide at York State Hospital in York, PA in 1943. Through the war she worked as an Inspector at
York Safe & Lock, was an Inspector at Hamilton Watch Factory in Lancaster, PA and was a Civil Service Inspector at Bendix Corporation in York.

Geri married Robert Wilson Gottshall in Shamokin, PA on February 6, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1978 in Santa Ana, CA.  In 1980 she married Walter Reed in Santa Ana, CA. Upon Walter’s retirement at SPS Electric in 1983, they moved to Lynden, WA.

Geri is survived by two daughters, Donna Staub (Henry) and Bonnie Onyon (Edward) and by 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, all of whom she greatly loved.

Geri’s first priority was her home and family. She painted in acrylics and enjoyed decorating her home and garden.

Geri’s faith in God was central to her life. Her family has great comfort that she is now at peace in the loving arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior. Among many memories, she will be missed for her love of family, the kazoos that she brought out for family birthday parties and holidays, and for her “laugh a day” remedy for enjoying life.

Arrangements are pending. Memorials may be made to Stafholt Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
