Blaine's historic Plover ferry spent the morning of Tuesday, September 20, plying the waters of Drayton Harbor collecting water samples in recognition of Whatcom Water Week.

Biologist Janet Pickard, who lives in Blaine, led a group of about eight people on the Plover in analyzing Drayton Harbor's water quality. On-board tests of the water's salinity, pH and dissolved oxygen levels were performed, while the group was invited to peer at water samples with microscopes once back on land to discover the tiny organisms that call the harbor their home.

The tour was just one of multiple events occurring this week that will stress the importance of water quality across the county. For a full list of events, click here.
