Two Outa Three Aint Bad
Blaine Post 86 won two of their final three games to end their 2001 summer baseball season with a 14-7 (.667) record overall. Gary Clausens crew split their games at the Pipe, dropping a 14-0 decision to Lynden Lightning on June 25 and gaining a 10-6 win over Nooksack on June 26 before topping Bellingham 7-4 at Bham.
Jordan Snow went the seven-inning distance, scattering 10 hits, to win the Nooksack game. Laird Dickie went 2-for-3 and Grant Sanders went 2-for-4. Both collected two RBIs. Dickie went the full seven frames to stop Bham on a five-hitter. Sanders led the Post at the plate, going 3-for-4, with three RBIs.
Coston, Jorgy edged
Lake Padden pro Ken Bensel won the 61st Oregon Open at Big Meadow Golf Club in Black Butte, OR on June 27, carding a birdie on the fifth playoff hole to edge Semiahmoo pro Jeff Coston, who garnered par, by a stroke. Bensel (68-67-70), Coston (68-70-67) and Shuksan pro Chris Jorgensen (67-72-66) completed the final round in a three-way tie, each shooting 11-under 65s.
Blaines wrestling camp for grades 1-12 goes July 16-20. Fee of $90 includes instruction, tourney, admission to waterslides, lunches and T-shirt. Interested grapplers are urged to sign up soon as registration has been rapid with 75 percent of places now full. For info, call Craig Foster at 371-7467.
fights back for a win

After starting out with a 13 to two loss to the Triple Bs, the Force softballers finished the week with two wins beating Tinklenburg Construction 9 to 5 and the Whatcom Belles 7 to 5.
Brandy Johannessons triple highlighted a two run first inning for Blaine but the Triple Bs came back, scored 5 in the bottom of the inning and cruised to the win.
Against Tinklenburg the force gave up five runs in the first inning, then pitcher Krista Walter closed the door and the locals battled back to tie the game and go ahead, scoring four runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Kaylyn Birds triple and Jennifer Pikes 3 run homer. Walter, Alicia Burk and Elizabeth Sipes each had two hits for Blaine as the locals had 11 hits for the game.
The hits keep coming in Blaines third game. Krista Walters 3 hits and 2 hits each by Alicia Burk, Jessica Woods, Amanda Stull and Kristina Francis led the 13 hit attack. Jessica Woods pitched the win.
The Force record is three wins and two losses in league play. Games are Thursday, July 12 at 7 and 8:45 p.m. at Bender Fields in Lynden and Saturday July 14 at 2:30 and 4 p.m. also at Bender.
