Summers,
Pike Honorable Mentions
Blaine�s Ryan Pike and Jessica Summers earned honorable
mention honors on March 20 as the Associated Press released
its All- State boys and girls basketball team selections
for 2002. Pike led the Borderite boys to fifth place and
Summers took the Lady B�s to fourth place at State.
No-hitter
for Walter
Krista Walter pitched Blaine�s first ever fastpitch no-hitter
ever as the Lady B�s blanked Granite Falls 10-0 in NCC action
on March 22 at the Pipe. Walter faced 16 and struck out
11. G-Falls� only runner reached on an error.
Leading
hitters for Blaine: Brandi Johanneeson (1-for-3, RBI), Jynessa
Trennepohl (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), Kristina Frances (2-for-3,
double, RBI) and Lacy Cheatwood (2-for-3).
Soccer
Success
Blaine defeated Lakewood 6-0 in North Cascades Conference
soccer on March 23 at the Pipe. Alden Walcon scored two
goals while Chris Crane, Pedro Magallon, Dustin Johnson
and Yasuto Morinako added a goal each. Jason Dean, Crane,
Magallon and Morinako picked up assists. GK Eli Dugger got
the shutout.
Bewitching
Pitching
Blaine blanked Meridian 7-0 on March 22 and split a twin
bill on March 23, losing 25-3 to 3A Burlington-Edison and
topping the Trojans 11-1 on a one-hitter.
Laird Dickie, Grant Sanders and Craig Anderson collaborated
on a six-hit shutout in the 7-0 Trojan tilt. Dickie got
the win, going four innings and striking out six. Sanders
and Anderson blanked the Trojans the rest of the way. Anderson
and Sanders each got a hit as Blaine scored 7 runs on 3
hits and 4 Meridian errors.
B-E overpowered the Borderites in their non-conference game,
scoring 25 runs on 25 hits and 6 Blaine errors. Bob Francis
got a RBI double for the locals.
Chris Kleman, who let up Meridian�s only hit, got the win
in the 11-1 game. Bob Francis pitched no-hit ball in relief.
Ryan Pike
went 3-for-3, Dickie got 2 RBIs and Sanders, a 2-run double
for Blaine.
Run
to Border
The first annual Run to the Border is slated for May 4.
The 1.5- mile Kids Fun Run starts at 10:30 a.m. The 5K Fun
Run goes at 11 a.m. All proceeds benefit the Blaine chapter
of Girls On The Run to provide scholarships, running attire
and coaching stipends to help support a building program
for 3rd through 5th grade girls. For further info, call

Barracuda
Business
Barracuda wrestlers Andrew Price (midget 80) and Anthony
Munden (midget 120) got firsts in the Steelclaw Classic
at Sedro Woolley on March 23 while Todd Bird (midget 80),
Chris Nunez (midget 112), Gavin Reagh (junior 171) and Scott
Dodd (open 264) were first at the Ferndale Mat Classic on
March 16.

Blaine placers at Sedro Woolley: 2nd � Dylan Krenz (midget
65), Darrell Price Jr. (novice 112) and Willie McLean (novice
140), 3rd � Jacob Humphrey (novice 65), Jesse Kilthau (schoolboy
80), Devin Krenz (schoolboy 110) and Derek Stremler (schoolboy
130).
Baracuda placers at Ferndale: 3rd � James Fakkema, bantam
65; Andrew Price, midget 75; Dylan Krenz, midget 65; Randy
Newton, junior 152; and Richie Tewes, junior 135.
